Road Trippin'

Well really it was a sidewalk, but it was a trip. And I was having a pretty good morning before that. I managed to get my contacts in with no trouble and my buttons didn't put up much of an issue either. Then on the way into work, as I tried to step over the curb onto the sidewalk, my foot got caught and down I went. Fortunately, I landed on my side and didn't slam my head off the ground like I have in the past. The only thing that was injured was my ego. Thankfully two women saw me fall and came to my aid. As they helped me up, I wasn't sure if they thought I was hammered, so I just blurted out that I have ALS. Once they found out I was sober, they were much more sympathetic and I got into work just fine. I don't share this for sympathy, but rather I am hoping it gives people an idea as to how ALS attacks. The "simple" things that I used to do without thought like tying my shoelaces, buttoning a shirt, or even getting out of a chair, require significant effort on my part. The saying about walking and chewing gum now applies to me, even though I don't chew gum. And as things get harder and harder, if not impossible to do, there is a sort of mind f*%$, where I know I USED TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS, but now cannot. #fals #fuals
