Every Journey Begins with a Step

Big day yesterday. An early one too, but indeed it was hopefully the start of something really big. Yesterday was the start of the Nurown study at MGH. I arrived at the Wang Building of MGH at 5:45 am with a combination of nerves and excitement. It might seem trivial, I was a bit nervous about the pain. Whenever I have told a person involved in medicine (doctor or nurse) what type of procedure I was having done, they always had that look like, 'Yeah good luck...' Turns out my fears were unfounded. The staff at MGH was great. Everyone made sure I was comfortable, or as comfortable as I could be. A hematologist performed the procedure and ended up removing about 5 tablespoons (his words to me) of marrow. Those cells will now be treated with Brainstorm's Nurown therapy that will cause the stem cells to differentiate into healthy neuron supporting cells. I get to come back on April 2 (Holy Thursday) and the healthy cells will be implanted into my spinal column and my right arm.

So now we wait for those cells to grow. And while nothing has happened yet, today I already felt stronger. I feel strong because of the love, support and prayers that have been coming to Kati and I. I feel strong because of the efforts by friends and family to organize fundraisers. I feel strong hearing from people who I don't even know that want to help. It amazing how no matter our differences, people still care and really do want to help. With the love and support I know that its going to help me Rise up and fight and beat ALS. So thank you guys, words can't express how much the Likes, Shares and Comments mean to Kati and I.
