I Believe in Miracles

There was a really great article on vice.com today. Its about a woman, who, much like me, was raised Catholic, and who, also like me, has ALS. The author, Angelina Fanous, and her story struck a cord with me. Here we are two people, in the primes of our lives, hoping for some sort of miracle. Here's the link if you'd like to check it out http://www.vice.com/read/divine-intervention-0000603-v22n3.
While I am not planning on traveling to Egypt any time soon (although I'll go if someone is buying), I am starting my own search for a miracle on Monday. I am quite fortunate to have been chosen as a participant in the Brain Storm trail being done as Mass General. On Monday, I will have stem cells removed from my left hip. Those cells will, hopefully, be treated with Nurown, a product developed by BrainStorm, that will cause the stem cells to develop into motor neurons. The hope is that by introducing healthy motor neurons into my body perhaps the new, healthy motor neurons can prop up to sick ones and slow the advancement of ALS. If you are interested, there is more information here http://www.brainstorm-cell.com/index.php/science-technology/nurown™.
So while I am not the staunch Catholic I was one, and to be honest, I am not sure what I believe any more, I still do believe in something greater than us. So hopefully there really are miracles and I am about to live through one.
